ISIPO Beijing dedicated to winter sports and climbing

  • 16th edition of ISPO Beijing from February 12 to 15, 2020, at the China International Exhibition Center (New Venue) in Beijing
  • Seminar program to offer guidance and assistance for international companies
  • Ski Resort Tour to the official sports venues of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games

From February 12 to 15, 2020, the international sporting goods industry will meet at the China International Exhibition Center (New Venue) in Beijing for ISPO Beijing, the most important industry trade fair in the Asia-Pacific region. In light of the approaching 2022 Olympic Winter Games in China, winter sports is the clear focus of the trade fair, as in past years. Another key area on display is the Outdoor segment with an emphasis in Climbing, Health & Fitness and Manufacturing & Suppliers. The extensive program of panels and seminars and the Ski Resort Tour are aimed primarily at international sports professionals.

Almost two years ahead of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, the enormous appeal of the major sporting event is clearly noticeable. New sports facilities and programs are springing up, the number of active winter sports enthusiasts in the population is growing: a dynamic that holds considerable potential for the sports industry. A further emphasis of ISPO Beijing 2020 is climbing, which is also a booming sport in China. A bouldering wall in climbing exhibition space will serve as a test area and stage for a live contest. The ISPO Climbing Industry Development Forum will provide space for participants to share know-how. The other segments of the fair – Health & Fitness and Manufacturing & Suppliers – also have separate spaces that highlight the key developments in that area.

“We consider it our job to provide guidance and assistance for the international public as to how to best operate in the Chinese market – from market entry to marketing through to capturing new target markets,” explains Elena Jasper, project manager at ISPO Beijing. “Not only are we presenting current market trends on a product level, we are exploring deeper with relevant offers so that we can depict the complexity of the topics with all of their facets.”

The partner fair Alpitec China, dedicated to new products in winter sports technology and ski resort infrastructure, will be held at the same time and place.

Market launch in China—know the ropes

With the Market Introduction Program on February 11 and 12, ISPO Beijing is addressing all companies interested in gaining a foothold in the Chinese sports market. The seminar will present current developments in the winter sports segment, legal pitfalls and peculiarities, retail trends, e-commerce and marketing channels as they pertain to the very unique, highly digitally-oriented consumer behavior in China. The program will also look at case studies from brands that have been successfully established. The speakers include, among others, d Robin Trebbe, Managing Director China & Asia Pacific at Intersport. A guided tour of the fair, a retail tour through Beijing and networking events round out the program.

The present and future of winter sports in China

The Asia Pacific Snow Conference on February 13 provides the framework for the release of the China Industry Ski White Book 2019 with plenty of information and facts on Chinese ski areas and the ski industry. Other planned presentations will focus on investment opportunities in the country, details on political assistance and local support in the scope of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Previous, successful business models will also be presented. To complete the agenda, a technical workshop will be held on the following day.

In the footsteps of Olympia

The two-day Ski Resort Tour from February 15 to 16, immediately following ISPO Beijing, moves the program from theory into practice. Participants will travel from Beijing to the Thaiwoo Ski Resort. The largest continuous ski area in China is the venue for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The personal exchange with the resort management is part of the planned activities as well as exploring the area by ski and a detour to Yanqing for the first ever Alpine Ski World Cup event in China.

The general conditions and any necessary registration formalities for the events, details of the extended program and updated information about ISPO Beijing 2020 are available at https://www.ispo.com/en/beijing. Tickets for the trade show are also available online.

15 years of ISPO Beijing: a success story in the growth market of China

ISPO Beijing will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2019. It has been an important event for the Asian sports market since 2005. Ever since it was launched, the trade fair has reflected the continuous changes in the market, highlighted trends and established itself as the industry’s leading platform.
ISPO’s success story in Asia began back in 2005 in Shanghai with “ispo china,” the first international trade fair for sports, fashion and lifestyle brands. As part of Messe München’s internationalization strategy, the existing ISPO concept was exported to the growth market of China where it became a real hit. After two successful years, the first ever “ispo china winter” (now ISPO Beijing) was held in Beijing in 2007, featuring 300 national and international brands. To put this in perspective, 746 brands exhibited in 2018.

Today, ISPO Beijing is the most important trade fair for the sporting goods industry in the Asia-Pacific region. It is the business platform for major international brands such as Burton, Fjällräven, Oakley and Rossignol as well as national major players such as MobiGarden and Kailas and new, emerging startups such as PYUA and Rico Lee China.

Economic growth in record time
From an economic perspective, China has developed from an emerging market to a global power at lightning speed. This development is also being reflected in the sporting goods industry: experts predict that annual sales will reach USD 460 billion by 2020. Within just five to ten years, the outdoor and running sectors have developed from practically nothing into real boom areas and important parts of the overall market. Similar developments in the west would take 20 to 25 years. China is also leading the pack when it comes to digitalization. Around

three quarters of consumers purchase their sports products online. ISPO Beijing’s response to this development has included collaborating with the Alibaba Group’s B2C online platform Tmall and setting up an e-commerce matchmaking program through which exhibitors and visitors are put in touch with relevant online retailers. “Our recipe for success is to ensure we are in constant communication and dialog with brands, retailers and opinion leaders. We know what the hot trends and topics are. Accordingly, we continue to develop alongside the industry itself and adapt our products and services directly in line with the current needs of our target group,” says Tobias Gröber, Executive Director Business Unit Consumer Goods at Messe München and part of the ISPO team for almost 20 years.

Major sporting events are a real driving force
ISPO Beijing was given a huge boost in 2008 when Beijing hosted the Summer Olympics and therefore also became the focus of the international sports industry. The country’s enthusiasm for sports also surged when China’s bid won. Beijing will also play host to the Winter Olympics in 2022, another major sporting event which is already having a considerable positive impact on the winter sports market in China and hence also ISPO Beijing. 300 million Chinese are expected to actively take part in winter sports by the time the Olympic Games take place.
“China is on its way to becoming the largest sports market in the world. We will therefore do everything we can at ISPO to reflect this development with innovative formats and platforms and to help our partners ensure they also share in this success,” says Gröber reflecting on the next few years for ISPO Beijing.

The 15th edition of ISPO Beijing will be held from January 16 to 19, 2019 at the New China International Exhibition Center (CIEC) in Beijing

ISPO PRESENTS THE BEST PERFORMANCE TEXTILES AND COMPONENTS

▪    ISPO TEXTRENDS presents 371 innovative products in 9 categories
▪    Selected innovations exhibited in hall C3 at ISPO MUNICH

ISPO TEXTRENDS is ISPO’s platform for innovative materials and components for sportswear production. ISPO TEXTRENDS presents 371 a selection of extraordinary products in hall C3 at ISPO MUNICH from January 25 to 27, 2016. A new category is the popular Street Sports trend. Furthermore, the exhibit will highlight the common textile trends Hybrid, Nature and Lightweight.

Four years after its premiere ISPO TEXTRENDS has established itself as a valuable and popular platform for groundbreaking textile trends and innovations among designers, product managers and the media.
At the end of October 2015 journalists, designers and independent experts traveled to Munich to evaluate submissions from all over the globe. The experts previewed products in nine categories (Base Layer, Second Layer, Outer Layer, Membranes & Coatings, Accessories, Trims, Fibers & Insulations, Soft Equipment, Street Sports) and selected a BEST PRODUCT in each category, as well as a TOP 10 selection, and up to 50 additional noteworthy materials (“SELECTION”). In addition, they selected ten extraordinary products revolving around the common textile trends Hybrid, Nature and Lightweight trends.

Peter Waeber CEO of bluesign Technologies ag and a jury member explains “We have a strong growth of innovative products. The industry provided really good products to the jury. ISPO TEXTRENDS is a must for any designer to have a look and to gain some inspiration, as a neutral platform. The jury is so broadly based that you can be sure that the right products were selected”

Louisa Smith, trend scout and head judge for ISPO TEXTRENDS shared her positive review of the jury meeting: “This year companies have focused even more on sustainability. Innovative hybrid combinations embody new concepts for natural fabrics and finishes. Extremely lightweight textiles combine fashion and functionality and provide the same level of performance as their heavier predecessors.”

Trade visitors can look forward to the latest selection, including the most relevant developments in fabrics, fibers and accessories awaiting them at ISPO TEXTRENDS in hall C3 at the end of January 2016. Yet ISPO TEXTRENDS is not just an exhibition. Designers and product developers have a unique opportunity for networking and sourcing on site. In addition, four daily presentations on current issues affecting the textile industry are on the program. If you cannot personally visit the forum, you will find all relevant information in the ISPO TEXTRENDS Trend Book by the end of January 2016. The ISPO Textrends App can be found at the Apple iOS App Store by searching “Textrends”.

ISPO BEIJING: In Anticipation of Olympia 2022 –

Messe München Extends Agreement with Alpitec China

We crossed our fingers, now it is official! The 2022 Olympic Winter Games will be held in Beijing! ISPO is especially pleased with this outcome, since the trade fair has been expressly supporting the development of the Chinese sports market for many years with ISPO BEIJING and the recently launched ISPO SHANGHAI. The extension of the partnership between ISPO BEIJING and Alpitec China ensures that the market is covered into the future all the way from infrastructure to sporting goods.

The Chinese sporting goods market continues to grow. The government has launched a variety of initiatives to support the populations’ health and further the importance of the sporting goods industry. In the future, physical education will be on the daily school schedule. At the same time, the construction of sports facilities will be endorsed. The selection of the venue for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, which was announced on July 31, 2015 at the IOC meeting in Kuala Lumpur, and the international attention and investments it will engender, will further increase the speed of the development of the sports infrastructure. "For years ISPO BEIJING and Alpitec China have experienced record attendances and offer the ideal presentation space for established and new brands. Particularly in view of the 2022 Winter Games the trade fair is the ideal platform for companies to become established on the Chinese sports market. If you want to remain a global player in the sporting goods market you cannot miss the boom in China," said Klaus Dittrich, CEO of Messe München.

Against this backdrop Messe München as the owner of the ISPO trademark is pleased to announce the extension of the partnership with Alpitec China, the international trade exhibition for mountaineering and winter technologies by Fiera Bolzano. Reinhold Marsoner, Director of Fiera Bolzano, Armin Hilpold, President of Fiera Bolzano, as well as Reinhard Schäfers, former German Ambassador in Rome and member of the supervisory board of Fiera Bolzano, met with the head

of Messe München, Klaus Dittrich, in Munich at the beginning of July to sign agreements extending to 2022. This continues the successful cooperation between ISPO BEIJING and Alpitec China for the entire winter sports industry in Asia.

Armin Hilpold, President of Fiera Bolzano, is pleased: "We expect a positive effect of the granting of the 2022 Olympic Games to Beijing and Zhangjiakou on the development of winter sports in China. The excitement for winter sports will grow and the number of winter sports enthusiasts will increase accordingly." For several years, international brands such as Gore, LOWA, Mammut and TECNICA as well as well-known Asian brands like Kailas, Mobi Garden and Toread have already been benefiting from the synergy effects and services generated by the leading sporting goods trade show in Asia.

The next ISPO BEIJING and Alpitec China will be held from February 24 to 27, 2016 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing.
