A 10% increase of the exhibition space was the first sign of an extremely popular edition of Modtissimo Portugal. Regarding the exhibitors, the number of applicants exceeded the vacancies, and among the six thousand buyers who were at Sá Carneiro Airport, the big news is the 20% increase of international buyers.  

In this Modtissimo 53, two new records were set: the largest exhibition area since it takes place at Sá Carneiro Airport, and a greater number of foreign buyers, with a 20% growth compared to the previous edition. Clear indicators which establish Modtissimo as one of the greatest bridges between the Portuguese industry and the main foreign markets.

If after 10 consecutive years of growth, doubts still existed about the Portuguese textile industry’s ability to continue innovating and showing vitality, they vanished in the very first moments of Modtissimo. From the minute the doors opened, the check-in area was always at full blast, and throughout the whole event - from February 27th to 28th - 6,000 buyers visited the fair, with a strong presence of several international delegations.

Spaniards, French, Germans, Italians, Russians and Moroccans came to Modtissimo to get to know the main novelties of the Portuguese textile industry. Among the 400 exhibitors present were the sector’s main names, from thread to clothing brands, fabrics, knitwear, services and accessories. Throughout the two-day event, the exhibitors presented their latest novelties, showing Portugal’s excellence and diversity.

Several of special moments happened throughout the event, such as the visit of an important Moroccan delegation, led by the ambassador of Rabat in Lisbon and the president of AMITH - the Moroccan textile association - accompanied by more than 20 outstanding Moroccan entrepreneurs, looking for new commercial partnerships in Portuguese territory. On the way out, the Moroccan delegation was impressed by what it saw: "We have come across a very diverse offer in all areas, from fabrics to knitwear and services," said Hichem Mghirbi, Filmod’s group owner.

The Spanish industry also made itself noticed in Modtissimo’s halls. Invited by AICEP, a strong entourage of 24 Spanish businessmen also visited the event. "Portugal is very fashionable and MODtissimo has been increasingly sought-after by the Spanish. All high and medium-high-end brands want to pass by," said Berta Presa, AICEP's representative in Madrid.

The wave of national and international visitors raised the optimism among Portuguese exhibitors. "There’s a great commitment to attract foreign buyers, which makes this event more and more interesting with each edition," said João Coutinho, Fashion Details co-founder, one of the exhibitors present. "It’s a great opportunity to find new customers, both in Portugal and in other countries," added Daniela Carvalho, Temasa’s Sales Manager.

In this note, Modtissimo 53 came to an end with a very positive outcome. "After two days filled with novelties, and with the increase of buyers from all over the world, our satisfaction could not be greater," concludes Manuel Serrão, Selectiva Moda’s CEO, the event’s organizer.

Modtissimo 54 already has a date and place set - October 2nd and 3rd, once again in Alfândega do Porto, and already lifted the veil on a novelty: the reinforcement of the Green Circle space, where the Portuguese industry’s sustainable solutions will be presented.
